First glimpse of Twenty Twenty-Five designs revealed

Automattic-sponsored design contributor Beatriz Fialho has revealed her designs for this year’s default WordPress theme.

In her announcement post at WordPress.org, Fialho describes Twenty Twenty-Five as embodying “ultimate flexibility and adaptability, showcasing the many ways WordPress enables people to tell their stories with many patterns and styles to choose from.” She says the block theme plays on the idea that simple things should be intuitive while complex things should be possible.

“The demo content imagery, all from the Public Domain, carries a poetic, universal, and ubiquitous tone that complements the core concept. There was an opportunity to visually lean into a positive tone to bring softness, lightness, and inspiration through its aesthetic,” said Fialho.

Fialho has published a preview of what the theme will look like with sample variations applied, along with Figma design mockups.

The concepts so far include designs for personal blogs, photo blogs, and news and magazine sites. It also features 40+ patterns for services, about, products, calls to action, landing pages, events and more, which Fialho says promote interoperability and enable users to quickly build pages. Eight color variations and eight font combinations are included.

So far, feedback from the community has been overwhelmingly positive.

“your first look Twenty Twenty-Five, the next best default WordPress theme ✨” posted Rich Tabor yesterday.

“Beautiful work ✨” posted Automattic-sponsored contributor Nick Diego.

Beatriz Fialho, who also designed Twenty Twenty-Four last year, is this year’s design lead again. I’m curious to hear what everyone thinks of it!” posted GREYD’s Jessica Lyschik, who co-led the development of Twenty Twenty-Four.

The theme in progress is available on GitHub and will be released together with WordPress 6.7 on November 12, 2024.
