Privacy Policy
1 – About The Repository
The Repository is an independent media business dedicated to covering what’s happening in the WordPress ecosystem. We’re committed to providing quality news content and this policy outlines our ongoing obligations to you in respect to how we manage your personal information.
We have adopted the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (the Privacy Act). The National Privacy Principles (NPPs) govern the way in which we collect, use, disclose, store, secure and dispose of your personal information.
You can find out more about the Australian Privacy Principles on the website of The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at https://www.oaic.gov.au/
2 – What is personal information and why do we collect it?
Personal information is information or an opinion that identifies an individual. Examples of personal information we collect includes names, emails, addresses, and how you use our newsletter and website.
This personal information is obtained in many ways including:
Newsletter: If you sign up to receive The Repository weekly newsletter, you provide your email. Your email is used solely for the delivery of the newsletter to your inbox. We would never share your email with any third parties. You can always unsubscribe by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of our emails.
Donations: If you choose to become a supporter of The Repository (thank you!) you provide your name, email, address, donation amount, and payment card information. We use fundjournalism.org to handle these transactions, and they will receive your payment information to process your donation. If you support on a monthly basis, you can update or cancel your recurring donation at any time by contacting us at he***@th***********.email
Communications: If you contact us via email, either by writing to us directly or by replying to our newsletter or automated emails, we will receive your name and email and any other information you choose to provide.
When we collect personal information we will, where appropriate and where possible, explain to you why we are collecting the information and how we plan to use it.
We also collect information automatically:
Usage information: The Repository lives on the publishing platform WordPress, and we use MailPoet to send our emails. MailPoet includes a statistical analytics feature to help publishers understand how their subscribers use their newsletters. This means that information about the emails subscribers open and the links they click are represented in these statistics. We also use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our website. This means that anonymized information of the pages readers visit and the times of those visits are represented in these statistics. MailPoet and/or Google may add other features to their analytics tools at any time, which will be available to me as a publisher, though we usually only look at high-level statistics.
We use your information solely to communicate with you if you have opted in to receive the newsletter, to facilitate donations, and to better understand how you use the site in order to improve it. We don’t share your information with any “third parties,” though it does live — securely — within our website (hosted by Kinsta) and externally to process donations (fundjournalism.org).
3 – Sensitive information
Sensitive information is defined in the Privacy Act to include information or opinion about such things as an individual’s racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, membership of a political association, religious or philosophical beliefs, membership of a trade union or other professional body, criminal record or health information.

- For the primary purpose for which it was obtained
- For a secondary purpose that is directly related to the primary purpose

4 – Third parties
Where reasonable and practicable to do so, we will collect your personal information only from you. However, in some circumstances we may—though very unlikely—be provided with information by third parties. In such a case we will take reasonable steps to ensure that you are made aware of the information provided to us by the third party.
5 – Disclosure of personal information
