The rebrand follows A2 Hosting’s January acquisition by World Host Group and includes a $2 million purchase of the hosting.com domain as part of a broader brand consolidation.

After more than two decades, the name ‘A2 Hosting’ is no more. The long-running hosting company has rebranded as hosting.com, retiring a well-known brand in the WordPress hosting space and completing its integration into parent company World Host Group.

The change comes four months after A2 was acquired by WHG in January 2025. WHG, founded in 2019, has grown rapidly through acquisition. It now operates more than 30 hosting brands, including FastComet, which it snapped up last week. The group has expanded to more than 800 staff, with 11 offices, 40+ global locations, and 650,000 customers with over 3 million websites hosted.

The move to hosting.com is more than a name change. WHG is consolidating its brands under a single identity, supported by a new website and a redesigned customer control panel. The new Turbo Hub — first previewed in January — is now live. On LinkedIn, hosting.com’s Head of Product Strategy, Louise Willoughby, shared that it was built and launched in just 3.5 months.

Cory Miller, now Chief Evangelist for hosting.com, said the rebrand reflects the company’s broader reach. “This isn’t change for the sake of change,” he wrote in the launch announcement. “It’s a strategic move to better reflect our growth, our global reach, and our unwavering commitment to providing you with the best hosting experience possible.”

A source familiar with the rebrand told The Repository the hosting.com domain cost around $2 million.

The domain itself has a long history. First registered in 1996, it was originally home to a division of Allegiance Telecom that operated under the Hosting.com name. The company later rebranded as HOSTING and merged with Hostway, another managed cloud hosting company, in January 2019. In September of that year, the merged companies rebranded as Ntirety, and hosting.com began redirecting to the ntirety.com domain.

A for-sale landing page appeared on hosting.com in mid-2023, and WHG appears to have acquired it around December 2024, according to Wayback Machine records.

While the A2 name is going away, the team behind it — and much of its original approach — remains, according to Miller. In a video, hosting.com CEO Seb de Lemos said the goal is to carry A2’s legacy forward. “I hope that you think we’re treating A2 Hosting with respect as a brand… and that we’re here to serve you better.”

A2 Hosting was founded in 2003 by Bryan Muthig, a Unix systems administrator based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. What began as a side project hosting sites for friends and family grew into a full-time business. A2 built its reputation on speed, performance, and support, rolling out VPS hosting in 2007, Turbo Hosting in 2014, and early adoption of SSD and later NVMe storage.

Customer feedback in the mid-2010s led A2 to double down on performance at a time when many competitors were focused on low-cost plans, according to rankthathost.com. The company has also been an active member of the WordPress community, sponsoring dozens of WordCamps and local meetups around the world. More recently, A2 was announced as a 2025 WordPress Global Sponsor.
