GoDaddy Announces $520,000 Donation to The WP Community Collective

GoDaddy’s significant donation will help finance The WPCC’s operations, programs and promotions within the greater WordPress community.

The WP Community Collective (WPCC) has secured its largest-ever donation, with GoDaddy today announcing $520,000 to help the nonprofit fund contributions to the WordPress ecosystem.

According to a GoDaddy press release, the donation will help finance The WPCC’s operations, programs and promotions within the greater WordPress community.

“GoDaddy and its employees care deeply about the WordPress community and show it year in, year out in many ways, including contributions of time and funding,” said Paul Bindel, GoDaddy President of Partners.

“We’re focused on continuing to enhance our industry-leading WordPress platform and hope our investment of $520,000 helps other valued members of the community sustain their contributions throughout 2025 and beyond.”

WPCC President Sé Reed said she was honored to receive GoDaddy’s support. The significant increase in the nonprofit’s bank balance — which stood at just $3,000 this time last week, according to Open Collective — would allow The WPCC to expand its successful fellowship program, she said.

“GoDaddy’s sponsorship is providing essential seed funding for The WPCC as we launch our expanded programs and operations,” Reed said. “It allows us to develop sustainable, paid Fellowship opportunities, enabling independent contributors to dedicate time and expertise to WordPress without financial constraints.”

GoDaddy also announced support for four other open-source initiatives today, including $12,000 for PHP Coding Standards (PHPCS), $24,000 for the PHP Foundation, $40,000 for the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), and ongoing sponsorship to cover live captions for the WP Accessibility Meetup group’s events.

Launched in 2022, The WPCC was officially incorporated as a California membership nonprofit last month, a milestone Reed said opened up new opportunities to fund developer contributions to WordPress.

“Initially, we’re creating fellowships focused on code. However, we are actively exploring ways to support other critical areas of the WordPress ecosystem,” she said.

The WPCC’s first fellowship program, launched in 2023, funded Alex Stine’s team rep role on the WordPress Accessibility team for six months.

GoDaddy’s sponsorship is the hosting company’s latest show of support for The WPCC. Early last year, GoDaddy supported the nonprofit’s second fellowship program focused on underrepresented speakers at WordCamps. GoDaddy also funded a WPCC campaign recognizing table leads at WordCamp US 2024.

It’s worth noting that GoDaddy Pro Web Developer & Designer Advocate Courtney Robertson is a founding member of The WPCC. She told The Repository that as a board member at large, she advised the nonprofit on the needs of the WordPress project and recused herself from discussions involving GoDaddy.

The WPCC has 99 founding members who contribute annually, according to Open Collective, the platform The WPCC uses for transparent fundraising. Reed said she welcomed and encouraged other companies and individuals to support the WPCC’s work.

“By collaborating, we can create meaningful opportunities for contributors and work toward a stable and sustainable future for WordPress and other open source projects,” she said.

The WPCC will hold its first quarterly board meeting next week, with online attendance open to all members and minutes available shortly after.
